Antique Chinese wood panels
At Shimu we have an ever-changing range of stunning and completely unique antique items. Carefully chosen by us and sourced directly from China, choosing an antique panel offers the perfect way to add an eye-catching touch of history to your home.
From highly decorative and beautifully carved pieces, through charming rustic designs, our antique screens date from the 18th and 19th centuries, up to the early 20th century. We are specialists in Chinese antique furniture and as such each item is carefully restored by highly skilled Chinese craftsmen who are highly skilled in traditional joinery techniques. They are experts in restoring items with care and respect to ensure the original beauty of each piece is retained, and that none of its patina is lost.
Newly made carved wooden screens and panels
Alongside our collection of antique pieces, we also offer a wide range of beautifully made new items. Our new pieces are handmade in China, as far as possible from reclaimed local elm wood which is known as Northern Elm. In addition, we also use poplar which has a similar grain to elm, and pine in some of our reproduction pieces. Every piece is handcrafted using traditional joinery and construction techniques, which have been passed down through generations of highly skilled Chinese craftsmen.
Many of our smaller wooden panels are perfect for use as stunning decorative wall-mounted items, with a wide range of options to choose from; including ornate, lacquered pieces, through to simple rustic designs.
